The Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas created the Open Government Lawmaker of the Year Award in 2013 to honor Texas legislators dedicated to protecting public access to government and First Amendment principles. The award is given periodically to deserving lawmakers after a legislative session and in other appropriate years. Past recipients are:
