The FOI Hotline at (800) 580-6651 is free of charge and available to anyone who has a question concerning open government laws in Texas.

The Hotline is designed to answer general questions about the Texas Public Information Act, the Texas Open Meetings Act, The Federal Freedom of Information Act and other FOI-related issues. The Hotline is not designed to answer questions dealing with other areas of law. Hotline attorneys offer a generic opinion on specific cases based on the facts given, but that opinion is in no way to be construed as legal advice. Hotline attorneys are located all over the state. They volunteer one week at a time on a rotating basis.

It should not be assumed that FOI Hotline attorneys are on-the-record sources for news stories, although individual attorneys may choose to comment for publication if asked. Please clarify the arrangement with the individual attorney. Generally, journalists seeking comment for news stories should contact the main FOI Foundation office at 512-377-1575.
