The Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas hosts its 2014 annual state conference "A Road Map to Open Government" on Friday, Sept. 12, at the Hilton Austin hotel. Panel discussions throughout the day will focus on the public's access to courts; social media in open government; and new twists in the Texas Public Information Act. Texas Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson, an outspoken advocate for constitutional rights including free speech, will be the keynote speaker at the conference's John Henry Faulk Awards Luncheon. Sunshine Week: FOIFT’s Light of Day Project provides data reporting training

College students in the Light of Day reporting project funded by the Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas are getting data reporting training this spring through Investigative Reporters and Editors. The first session with IRE trainer Jaimi Dowdell took place Feb. 6 at Texas State University. The second session is this week with Tarleton State students. The Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas joining forces with award-winning online news site The Texas Tribune to conduct a statewide project for journalism students. The Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) that educates and advocates for open government and First Amendment issues, announced today that they have partnered with the Texas Tribune to implement the Light of Day Project. AUSTIN, TEXAS – Friday, November 6, 2009: When Erin Cooper was a journalism student at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas, in the Fall of 2006, she participated in a student program of The Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas. The Foundation’s program is called the “Light of Day” project. Journalism faculty at Texas’ universities participate in the Foundation’s statewide topic to teach students how to use public records, including the state’s Open Records Act, to get information that government agencies might not otherwise provide willingly.
