By Reeve Hamilton The Texas Tribune Originally published April 24, 2014 A legislative committee that is investigating University of Texas System Regent Wallace Hall plans to vote at a hearing on May 12 whether to recommend articles of impeachment to the full House. If it requires more time, the vote may not come until May 13. The House Select Committee on Transparency in State Agency Operations met on Thursday for the first time since its special counsel, Houston attorney Rusty Hardin, issued a report laying out four possible grounds for Hall's impeachment. The reasons listed in Hardin's report include allegations that the [...]

By Reeve Hamilton The Texas Tribune Originally published April 17, 2014 On Wednesday morning, state Rep. David Simpson, R-Longview, found two fliers slipped under the door of his Capitol office calling for the resignation of embattled University Texas System Regent Wallace Hall. In large red letters, the fliers, which were also distributed to other lawmakers and posted around the University of Texas at Austin campus, declared, “We can’t let one man destroy UT-Austin.” It’s the latest indication that emotions surrounding Hall’s fate have spiked in recent weeks, as higher education observers await the next move of a legislative committee that has conducted [...]

By David Barer The Dallas Morning News Originally published Feb. 11, 2014 Attorneys assisting the University of Texas System and a Legislative committee investigating embattled regent Wallace Hall billed the state upwards of $400,000 for 2013 work, pay stubs indicate. The legal costs are a portion of the toll of the ongoing debacle, which critics say has sullied UT’s reputation and spurred the resignation of top leaders. 2014-02-07T15:18:58-06:00

By Ralph K.M. Haurwitz Austin American-Statesman Originally published Feb. 6, 2014 The University of Texas System’s governing board adopted tighter procedures Thursday for its members’ information requests, while also granting the members wide latitude to obtain records and data. The action was a response to complaints about Regent Wallace Hall Jr.’s demands for massive amounts of records from UT-Austin. Campus officials say they have turned over about 800,000 pages, though system officials say the number is far smaller, perhaps fewer than 100,000.
